As any trans person who minds their presentation knows, clothing choices can be extremely vital to survival.

A good chunk of the Arkh characters are somewhere on the trans spectrum and have different presentations, but this particular part of the game will…

…this does happen in real life, you realize.

the point of the system is the player has to pay attention to how others perceive them.

like how white people can wear certain outfits and be called “quirky” and “cute”, and when black people wear the same thing, they’re pegged immediately as ghetto no matter what it is, making it harder for black people to dress in certain ways without an expectation of maltreatment.

same difference with cis people and trans people. if the goal of the game is to step you into a different role, where you have to pay the utmost attention to the things about you that make you different from everyone else in a way you never did before, I think it’s a pretty good idea. presentation is extremely important to social life…even with its’ problematic aspects.

it’s a PRIVILEGE to have to pay less attention to your clothing choices and exactly what other people see.

You know, what’s odd is that I’ve gotten so used to having to pay attention to my clothing choices that I never thought of it in this way. Although I def do have variant privilege which trans women, for example, don’t have. Also being female assigned already means that more variation in my gender presentation is acceptable, in most places in the U.S. at least.
